The Colorado Capitol Building is no doubt an elegant center of power where the politicians of the state come to battle things out.
I didn’t meet any politicians today, but the other personnel present were very friendly and nice. It must be a great place to work, because they certainly had pride in their jobs.

This is a great picture, Kristal! Not the usual “straight up at the dome” or “close-up on the murals” shots most people shoot. Would you share some of the process? Did you schedule a tour or walk in? Were you constrained from using a flash? Did you take your tripod? Was it empty of other people, or did you have to wait to get these without people?

Hi Bruce, Thanks for you comment, I appreciate it!
My son is an IT employee at the Capitol Building. He arranged for an early morning tour for us at 8:00 a.m. Yes, I took a tripod, I’m not that steady to shoot HDR hand held. No flash, just natural light. I do use Photomatix to blend the 3 bracket shots. Then I used Topaz to remove some of the noise.
This shot was taken later in the morning, there were a few people walking about, but I managed not to catch them. With long exposures many times they can just walk thru and not show up, I believe this shot didn’t have any folks at all in it.
I was pleasantly surprised at how accessible the Capitol Building is. You go through security and after that you are on your own. I know my way around somewhat thanks to Zack, otherwise I might be a little timid to go in by myself. My impression now is, I could walk in at anytime with a tripod and be welcome. Everyone was very friendly, sometimes curious.
Of course, the legislature is not in session. When it is, I would assume the traffic will increase.
Good luck, I look forward to seeing your work!

Cool, thanks! I’m not ordinarily a fan of HDR, but for these it really works for the good of the pictures. Well, done!
Side note: A distant relative of mine, Paschal Quackenbush, did the lettering of Thomas Ferril’s poetry under the Allen True murals!

Bruce, What an interesting bit of trivia! You really need to go shoot the Capitol for sure!
