Buffalo Roam

These are really called Bison, but the popular name (although incorrect) is Buffalo. This was taken on a trip to the Badlands earlier this summer. There was a storm approaching the area and the herd was ambling along to get away from the approaching lightning and rain. I couldn’t post the entire image, as I shot it in a Panoramic that is over 100 inches wide! This is just a small fraction of the image and the herd! It was amazing to watch! I am so thankful these animals are now protected in the lovely National Park.

P.S. The Badlands are NOT in Colorado but in S. Dakota. If you haven’t been there, put it on your bucket list!

Boogey Woogie Bugle Boy

This guy was bugling to beat the band. He had a harem of 35 cows and youngins’ and he was working hard to keep them! It was so much fun to watch.

Deer in Snow

The Rocky Mountain Wildlife Refuse has lots of wildlife. This deer was a little unsure of what I was doing, sitting in my car. Having a long lens helps capture a good expression without having to get close.

Frozen Geese

It was a chilly evening that promised a great sunset, it happened just not where I was standing! What was funny here is how the geese were walking on thin ice. They would break thru and then scurry to get on thicker ice. Perhaps they don’t like cold water?

This beautiful Bald Eagle posed for me. Her power and grace was humbling. I’ve read they can swoop down and carry off a prey that’s many times their body weight. No wonder they have no enemies other than man.

On a recent Meetup we had the people from HawkQuest bring out their raptors for us to photograph. This female Bald Eagle was such a pleasure to photograph. She really gave a good profile!
