The Tree

The Tree lives up on Mt. Evans. It is part of the enduring Bristlecone Trees who have a history of surviving in harsh weather and bad soils. They are among the oldest living life forms on earth! If this trees could talk!

I braved the night, getting up at 3 a.m. to make the trip up Mt. Evans from my home so I could see the sunrise. I thought I was unique! How wrong I was, the road wasn’t as busy as during the day, but I certainly wasn’t alone on that mountain! Cars keep climbing up and beyond to the summit no doubt to witness what I was there to see!

It was worth it. The sun broached the horizon creating wonderful and changing colors! From the moment it started until it was high in the sky, I continued to capture it’s beauty. The colors changed during this time giving me very different images despite not moving more that a few inches either way!

If you haven’t experienced a sunrise on Mt. Evans, set your alarm clock for 0-dark-30 and do it before you die! Trust me on this. It is worth the trip. 14,300 feet above sea level

There was a forest fire burning up in Bailey, Colorado. Smoke filled the air, but did that stop the sun from providing a wonderful show that night? Of course not! This is Colorado Colorado after all! Enjoy!

Colorful but Controversal

I’m not posting this for political or protest reasons. I saw, I was inspired, I captured, I shared. There is beauty everywhere.

Sunflower Fields Forever

Just east of Denver for a couple weeks each year the farmers plant sunflowers. These hardy plants can survive with little water. They grow quite tall and the blooms are huge. It’s no wonder they are so popular. When they bloom, hoards of people come out to the fields to enjoy them and take pictures. It has actually become a hazard. Many thoughtless people trample are cut the flowers down without giving thought to the owner of the fields. I wish the farmers would unite and sell Sunflower Licenses (i.e. like a Hunting/Fishing license) to limit the destruction and to allow responsible people to enjoy the fields up close. I realize that would take a lot of man-power to police, but I would pay for the priviledge and I know many others who would too! In the meantime, we line the road enjoying the view! Thank you farmers for planting these magnificient specimens!

Sunset Road

Colorado is known as Colorful for many reasons. Sunsets are one reason! The sun had set but just before darkness fell the sky lit up with brilliant colors, illuminating the landscape. It doesn’t always happen this way, but when it does I feel rewarded!

Windmill Sunset

When the sun goes down lighting up the sky in hues of scarlet, I look for an interesting place to photograph. Last night I was out on the Eastern Planes of Colorado when off in the distance I saw this windmill. I drove toward it. When I got within range, I hopped out of the car and began clicking the shutter. I took a few pics, jumped back in my car and drove up the road to turn around. On the return trip, I spotted a man with his dog standing in the driveway. I gave him a cheerful wave while noticing his dog was on an alert, good thing I was still in the car! Fast forward to this morning. While processing this photo, I could see the outline of the man standing in the dark area near the windmill. I had no idea he was there when I was taking this picture! Now I feel really silly and a little embarrassed! I wonder what he thought I was doing!

Lone Tree Full Moon

The moon was nearing full and lazy me wanted a photo with an interesting foreground. This bridge fit the bill as it is only a few blocks form my home. It’s still under construction but it looks really good to me!

Frozen Geese

It was a chilly evening that promised a great sunset, it happened just not where I was standing! What was funny here is how the geese were walking on thin ice. They would break thru and then scurry to get on thicker ice. Perhaps they don’t like cold water?

City Park and the Denver Skyline

Getting up before sunrise after a snowy day got me this lovely image of City Park. This time of morning the scene changes rapidly, I love when the colors are a soft pink and blue as the sun crests the horizon.
